Planet Cake Update - Week Ending 14.03.09

It has been and incredibly busy and exciting week at Planet Cake this week with good and bad news. The good news is that I have been informed by Murdoch Books that the Planet Cake book has completely sold out, in 2 weeks. The bad news is that for the next month the book will not be available until the next order arrives from the printer in about a month!

If you wish to get a copy and have not been able to I would either pre-order with a company like Shearers Bookstore http://www.shearersbookshop.com.au/ or your local bookstore to ensure you get a book when the order arrives in.

Handi is teaching Bascis 106 (Springtime) all weekend with gorgeous students Melanie, Dee & Winnie, I cannot wait to see the results.

Handi has had a very busy week organising his trip to Melbourne but he has also been teaching and making cakes. Margie took this photo of him with his calla lily cake as example of how many time decorators start dressing to match their cakes! Also a gorgeous black and white cake with the bride and groom wearing matching cycling outfits - cute!

Anna Maria had a busy week teaching Bascis 104 (the tea pot) to a fabulous groups of students who all did brilliantly, check out the results! She also had time to make a number of props and this gorgeous lily of the valley design (design originated somewhere else).

Margies week seemed to be a lot about sports and 1969! The baseball was for an ex-pro player who happens to reside in Sydney, hand painted with his nickname it was delivered to him on his birthday as a surprise gift from his wife. The football was for a very serious AFL supporter and the 1969 cake was for a fabulous birthday party, you can guess the theme. This photo does not do justice to the shoes which Margie made which were covered with edible glitter.

Thank you for the Magic!

Planet Cake Update - Week Ending 07.03.09

Hi Everyone

We have had an exciting week celebrating the launch of our book 'Planet Cake'. Starting with an appearance on the Channel 7 Morning Show for a demonstration which was a lot of fun and we had thousands of emails and loads of phones calls. It was fantastic to meet so many new faces and talk non-stop about cake decorating. and later in the week I did a couple of radio interviews which was also a great way to connect with different states in Australia. In spite of the book launch we also had a great week for cakes and workshops.

A great corporate cake to celebrate a 10th Birthday!

Happy Birthday Paris , does anyone know who made the cake?

Prepare to be amazed with Margie's cakes this week, sometime there is a group of cakes which show her talents to their best advantage and this is one of those weeks. 19 yo Morgan Clark who has just finished an outdoor holiday in NZ will return to find this birthday cake waiting for him. 80 year old Elizabeth should like this gorgeous cake of her and her cat. Taiger will be getting married to his beautiful bride this weekend, only to discover that she has not forgotten his birthday and will be presenting him with a cake to represent his bithday and his wedding (2 candles) and his nickname 'Tigger'. Finally a perfect cake for a a man who loves nude sunbathing!

There were some exceptional workshops this week, 12 students attended the bride and groom figurine workshop, with some excellent results, here is Linda Harden thrilled with her wonderful figurines and rightly so. Anna Maria helped teach Novelty 103, the complex handbag and Handi was able to guide students to one of the best results ever - check out these hand bag cakes!

Anna Maria mad some gorgeous cakes this week, this beautiful tropical vase made from chocolate mud cake was destined for a beach wedding in Vanuatu. There was also gorgeous variation on our normal black and white design using white roses and the pink floral 2 tier made a very sweet birthday cake.

Cake Wrecks

If you have not checked out www.cakewrecks.blogspot.com for a while its well worth a look, Antony and I enjoyed this vintage photo in particular!

Belated Weekly Update - Week Ending 28.02.09

Hi Everyone

Apologies that this is a belated post, we have been frantic in the lead up to the book launch, however despite all of our book business we have still managed to make some beautiful cakes and teach some wonderful courses, however for those waiting for a copy of the book Anna Maria made up a gorgeous prop for a window display of our 'crying babies' from the book.

Anna Maria worked away this week making lots of props for the book launch, however she also had time to make this stunning wedding cake for a photo shoot for Real Weddings Magazine...nice work AM!

Here are some fantastic cakes made by Margie, a gorgeous Art Deco cake for 21st birthday, figurine completely recreated in icing and cylinders made from white chocolate cake and decorated with icing fans. The 'Shed' cake is a hoot as it is for a 7o yo ex Qantas hostess, with a love of cigarettes and getting together with her girl pals in her pink shed, to disguise the cigarettes they suck cough drops...LOVE IT!!!

Thank you so much for your patience, another great week under our belt!
